COMING ATTRACTIONS

Fall 2017

The Winter's Tale

by William Shakespeare
directed by Denise Brunker

There's a jealous king, an wrongly accused queen, a banished friend, an abandoned infant rescued and raised by kindly shepherds. There are elements of comedy, tragedy and fantasy, of love, loss, obsession, jealousy and redemption. Add some travelers in disguise, one very life-like statue and even a bear - yes, a bear - and you have this fairy tale-like yarn that is really all about family. It's one of Shakespeare's last and most curiously fascinating plays.

Performances: Friday and Saturday evenings, November 10 to 25, 2017, at 8:00pm, in Pilling Hall at The First United Methodist Church of Germantown, 6001 Germantown Avenue.

Meet the company

Spring 2018

Silent Sky

by Lauren Gunderson
directed by Robert Bauer

When Henrietta Leavitt was recruited by the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s, she was excited by the prospect of having access to one of the largest telescopes in the world, only to learn that the telescope was used exclusively by men. Instead, she joined a group of women charting stars for the chief male astronomer who calculated their efforts in "girl hours." In her free time, however, Henrietta continued to study the heavens, drawing conclusions that radically altered the future of astronomy. Brilliant! Illuminating! And true!

Performances: Friday and Saturday evenings, March 9 to 24, 2018, at 8:00pm, in Pilling Hall at The First United Methodist Church of Germantown, 6001 Germantown Avenue.

Directing Proposals Welcome

The Drama Group welcomes proposals from potential directors at any time of the year. We are especially interested in plays that have not been widely produced in the Philadelphia area. Comedies are especially welcome, although all suggestions will be considered. Submissions must include play title(s), author's name, publisher, a brief synopsis, cast breakdown, and specific set, costume and technical requirements. Include a resume of directing or other theatrical credits. Email info@thedramagroup.org. Do NOT send play scripts. The Drama Group is a volunteer theatre company, however, directors receive a small stipend at the end of the run. Please review the list of our past productions before submitting a proposal.
